What is CBT?

“Cognitive Behavioural Therapy” (CBT) is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviours. CBT is designed to help individuals gain a deeper understanding of their emotions and develop effective coping strategies. Our experienced Resident Therapist uses CBT to work collaboratively with clients, addressing issues such as trauma, anxiety, depression, stress and addiction. With us you will learn the fundamentals of CBT to improve your everyday mental well-being and long-term fulfilment.

What is Psychodynamic Therapy?

“Psychodynamic Therapy”, often referred to as psychodynamic counselling or psychoanalytic therapy, is a therapeutic approach rooted in the understanding of the unconscious mind and the influence of past experiences on a person’s current emotions, behaviours, and relationships.

Key principles of Psychodynamic Therapy include:

  • Unconscious Processes: It posits that many of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are driven by unconscious processes, which are explored to gain insight into the root causes of psychological distress.
  • Exploration of the Past: Psychodynamic therapy places significant emphasis on exploring a client’s early life experiences, especially those related to childhood and family, to identify patterns that might be affecting their present life.
  • Transference and Countertransference: The therapeutic relationship is central, with a focus on the dynamics between the therapist and the client. Transference (the client’s feelings projected onto the therapist) and countertransference (the therapist’s reactions) are examined for insights.
  • Insight and Self-awareness: The goal is to help clients gain self-awareness and insight into their unconscious motivations and conflicts, which can lead to personal growth and better decision-making.
  • Interpretation: Therapists may interpret unconscious thoughts and feelings to help clients understand their emotions and behaviours better.
  • Holistic Approach: It considers the interplay of various aspects of a person’s life, including their emotions, relationships, and past experiences.

This therapy can be beneficial for individuals seeking to address deep-seated emotional issues, relationship challenges, and a better understanding of themselves. By delving into the hidden aspects of the mind and past experiences, psychodynamic therapy aims to promote healing and personal growth.

What is Relapse Prevention?

“Relapse Prevention” is a critical component of addiction therapy aimed at helping individuals maintain their recovery. It involves strategies and techniques to identify, avoid, and cope with triggers that may lead to a return to addictive behaviour. Key elements of relapse prevention include developing coping skills, recognising warning signs, creating a support network, and having a well-structured aftercare plan. These efforts aim to empower individuals to stay on the path to lasting recovery.
